Ok, so I know that the new Apple iPhone is all the rage right now. But, seeing as how I’m tied into a contract with T-Mobile … And the the coverage from Cingular/AT&T is horrible in the Ewa Beach area of Hawaii where I live (my wife used to have Cingular) … when I get home in a couple of weeks, I’ll be treating myself to a new Sidekick ID. Before I deployed to Iraq last January, I had a Sidekick II, but I let my son use it while I was gone, and apparently he’s dropped it one too many times
I could have upgraded to the Sidekick III, but looking at the comparison chart on t-mobile’s site, it appears the only major differences are no camera and no bluetooth. I don’t need the blue tooth, and I already have a couple of great cameras (Canon 20D , and Panasonic TZ-1) so I don’t need to take pictures with my phone.
What I like best about the Sidekick (and why I think it’s a great choice for a part-time networker) is the $20 unlimited data plan. I get my email right there on the sidekick. Unlimited text messages. Unlimited web browsing (I can visit most websites as long as they’re not running a lot of scripts). And best of all, I can be on aol and yahoo instant messengers all day long … great way to keep in touch with my current team members, as well as prospective new partners. I know you can do many of these things on a regular phone, but you don’t have the cool little thumb keyboard (I hate trying to text message on a regular cell phone).
All-in-all, I’d recommend the Sidekick as good way to enhance productivity for the part-time networker on the go.
Till next time …
Todd
